The quality of water exerts a significant influence on the quenching of hot metals which is often not taken into account. Dissolved salts increase the Leidenfrost temperature and the maximum heat flux resulting in a much faster cooling rate. A measure for the amount of dissolved salts is the electrical conductivity. The Leidenfrost temperature increases approximately linear with its value. These values differ for real industrial used waters by 150 Kelvin. Not dissolvable solid exerts no influence. Dissolved gases have only little influence.
