Abstract

Over the years, departmental stores in Batam have not been able to create a good store image as compared to other developed countries. This paper examines factors such as ambience, design, social, price & quality of merchandises and service aspects that can contribute to good store image in departmental stores. These factors might also be critical to survive in the ever competing service industry in Batam. Samples in this study were collated with the help of questionnaires filled up by respondents who had visited a department store in the past 6 months. Judgment sampling techniques is used to determine the sample, survey methods and tools in the form of a questionnaire adopted from previous research. The collected data is processed by multiple regression method. Based on the results of processed data, it can be concluded that factors namely ambience, design, social, and has positive influence on the price & quality of goods and services, prices, quality of goods, and merchandise quality services, have positive effect on the image of a store. as mediation
