Abstract

This study aims to investigate the factor that causes employees attitudes toward knowledge sharing and knowledge sharing intentions by focusing on motivational factors. However, this research has been conducted examining the different kinds of motivation (extrinsic and intrinsic) used to explain employee knowledge sharing behaviors. By integrating a motivational perspective into the theory of reasoned action (TRA), this study examines the role of extrinsic (expected organizational rewards and reciprocal benefits) and intrinsic (knowledge self efficacy and enjoyment in helping others) motivators in explaining employee knowledge sharing intentions. Samples of this study were taken from employees as front office staff, marketing, housekeeping, and food beverage of industry four star hotel in Batam. Statistical method used to test the research hypothesis is a multiple regression analysis method with the individual level of analysis units. Primary data obtained directly from the object of research. A total of 420 questionnaires were distributed to respondent. Purposive sampling method was used in this study. The results showed that knowledge self efficacy impact significantly on attitudes toward knowledge sharing but not significantly impact on knowledge sharing intentions. The motivational factors enjoyment in helping others impact significantly on attitudes and knowledge sharing intentions. While expected organizational rewards and reciprocal benefits did not significantly impact on employee attitudes and behavior intentions regarding knowledge sharing.
