Abstract
It might be difficult to teach English as a foreign language in settings where the language has relatively little practical use. This study made an effort to define the characteristics of a good and successful EFL teacher in the Philippines. This study used a qualitative method of design. This study has two Batam-area schools as its site and participants, along with three informants. Interview, a tool with 11 questions, was used. The findings of this study illustrated how English teachers' perspectives on the difficulties they encountered when implementing English instruction in the classroom were collected through interviews. Many issues arose, some of which were brought on by students and others by professors. Academic difficulties present a difficulty for students. As this is going on, teachers must find the appropriate approaches and resources based on the demands of the students. This report also made recommendations for ways to deal with these problems. The two types of efforts are those made by the school and by the English teachers. The English teachers' efforts in tackling English teaching, on the other hand, include applying a variety of teaching methods and techniques, matching students' proficiency levels and learning situations, utilizing the facilities and resources that are already available, providing motivating feedback, looking for appropriate methods or materials, and teachers' self-reflection.
