Abstract
This research aims to identify factors that contribute to students' speaking anxiety and how students attempt to overcome their anxiety. Students felt speaking as a problem and identified as the language skills that caused anxiety. This research was conducted among 33 students from the batch of 2020 and 2021 faculty of English Language Education in Universitas Internasional Batam. A mixed-method design was used by applied questionnaires and semi-structured interviews to collect the data. The result of this research found that there are three categories as factors that contribute to students speaking anxiety which are communication apprehension, fear of negative evaluation, and test anxiety. Besides that, in addition, to overcome students' speaking anxiety, students used self-communication, self-healing, restarting the speech and switching the language also learn and practice as their effort to overcome their speaking anxiety.
