Abstract

Sekolah swasta merupakan lembaga pendidikan formal yang dikelola oleh yayasan swasta. Pada umumnya SMP Swasta di kecamatan kota Batam masih banyak yang belum memenuhi 8 standar nasional pendidikan. Berbagai macam persoalan yang dihadapi oleh masing-masing satuan pendidikan. Mulai dari administrasi, pengangkatan kepala sekolah yang tidak sesuai dengan kualifikasi dan hanya berdasarkan faktor kekeluargaan serta kedekatan, manajemen dan kurangnya kinerja kepala sekolah dalam perencanaan serta berbagai kebijakan sekolah. Akibatnya rendahnya kinerja dan kompetensi kepala sekolah dalam menjalankan program-program sekolah. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif yang menggambarkan kondisi obyek dan subyek penelitian dengan gambaran sewajarnya atau apa adanya dan menghasilkan data secara deskriptif. Peneliti mengumpulkan data menggunakan berbagai teknik atau cara yaitu: melakukan suatu pengamatan terhadap objek (observasi), melakukan interview (wawancara) dan membuat dokumentasi. Kompetensi manajerial kepala sekolah SMP Swasta di Kecamatan Batam Kota dikategorikan baik dari total keseluruhan aspek yaitu mencapai 60,3 %. Salah satu aspek kompetensi yang memiliki kategori paling tinggi dan baik adalah Pengelolaan dengan tingkat capaian yaitu 71%. Kinerja Kepala SMP Swasta Kecamatan Batam Kota dikategorikan baik dari total keseluruhan aspek yaitu mencapai 74,8 %. Salah satu aspek kompetensi yang memiliki kategori paling tinggi dan baik tentang kemampuan komunikasi kepala sekolah yaitu sebesar 83%. ********************************************************************** Private schools are formal educational institutions managed by private foundations. In general, there are still many private junior high schools in Batam's sub-districts that do not meet 8 national education standards. Various kinds of problems faced by each education unit. Starting from administration, the appointment of school principals that are not in accordance with qualifications and only based on family factors and the closeness, management and lack of performance of school principals in planning and various school policies. As a result, the performance and competency of principals are low in implementing school programs. This study uses a qualitative approach that describes the condition of objects and research subjects with a reasonable description or how it occurs and produces data descriptively. Researchers collect data using various techniques or ways, namely: making an observation of the object, conducting interviews and composing documentation. The managerial competence of principals of Private Junior High Schools in Batam Kota Sub district is categorized well from the total of all aspects, reaching 60.3%. One aspect of competency that has the highest and best category is management with an achievement level of 71%. The performance of the Principal of Private Schools in Batam City Sub-District was categorized as good from the total aspects, reaching 74.8%. One of the competency aspects that has the highest and best category regarding principals' communication skills is 83%.
