Abstract
This research was conducted in order to classify speech acts and translation Techniques in folklore books. All conversations are speech acts. Therefore, the researcher has the intention to classify various kinds of speech acts in the conversations in the folklore books, and also to explain the translation Technique used by the researcher to translate the conversations. The books to be examined are folklore books from Riau province. This study uses a qualitative research method, because the researcher collects data from the analysis of the results of its’ own translation, this method is a reflective study method. The data obtained from this study contained 4 kinds of speech acts, namely Representative, Directive, Expressive, and Commissive. There are 4 translation Techniques obtained, which are word-to-word translation, literal translation, and proverb translation. This research aims to help translators so that they can understand speech acts and be more cautious in using translation Techniques.
