Abstract

The research examines the influential factors to English Language Education students' difficulties in writing their thesis at Universitas Internasional Batam. In this study, the researchers used a mixed-methods approach. This study's population and sample were ELE students from the 2017 and 2018 batches, involving 25 students. A questionnaire with 25 items and an interview with ten items were used as instruments. The questionnaire revealed that (1) 82% of the students struggle with personality factors; (2) 74% of the students face difficulties in sociocultural factors; and, (3) 78% of the students encounter difficulties due to linguistic factors. Based on the three variables, it is concluded that the most significant source of difficulty for English students is the personality factor. According to these three variables, the most significant source of difficulty for English students is the personality factor, as indicated by the high percentage obtained.
