Abstract

ASEAN Economic Community (AEC) has been established in 2015, it has huge market opportunities around US$ 2.7 trillion, with 640 million people in 2017. It makes ASEAN has a prominent future for ASEAN which is already the third-largest in economic community Asia and seventh-largest in the world. Manufacturing is still playing an important role in international merchandise trades for export and import. In 2000, total trade was only US$ 790 billion but it increases 3.5 times in 2017 by reaching US$ 2.573 billion. This area becomes an attractive point for public-policy- makers, researchers, and organizations since export performance as outcomes of a firm’s export activities is the potential to enhance prosperity. From Resource-Based Theory, some internal determinants of export performance are export marketing strategy, firm’s characteristics, including knowledge, firm’s ability and market orientation, and; management characteristics. To expose the interaction with external determinants, the Socio-Technical System Perspectives has been applied. This paper describes that market intensity and the legal-political environment are the main uncontrollable aspects. The legal and regulatory policies of host country governments have an important impact on reinvestment, financing, and repatriation decisions that impact its capacity and effectiveness. To achieve the realization of ASEAN as the single based market, Infrastructure both soft and hard will have an essential part to the realization of ASEAN’s goal of economic integration because it promotes and enhances the physical connectivity. The connectivity will encourage cross-border trade and investment, improve countries' competitiveness, and raise domestic output. This significantly improves the effectiveness of export performance.
